Show notes

In this episode I speak with Bobby Blackwolf, host of The Bobby Blackwolf Show. It's the first in what we hope will be a series of several more Meet Your Affiliates interviews over the next few months with Georgia Podcast Network affiliates.

The interview is broken into two parts, of which this is the first. Here we discuss the history behind Bobby's show, the Nintendo Wii, our shared esteem for Super Mario Bros. 2, and a few other topics.

In the second part, which is posted here, we mostly talk about the Atlanta game industry and the politics of gaming.

Interview - Atlanta filmmaker Bailey Barash

Listen (0:13:32)

Please update to the latest Flash Player and make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser. Or use the download link below to listen on your desktop.

Show notes

This interview was recorded at Charis Books and More, before a screening of Bailey Barash's new documentary, The AIDS Chronicles - Here to Represent. Bailey is an Atlanta native who spent 19 years at CNN before starting her own production company. The AIDS Chronicles is the result of almost five years of work documenting the impact of HIV/AIDS on the urban black community in Atlanta.

Bailey and I discussed media representation of AIDS, its impact on Atlanta in contrast to other areas of the country, some of the challenges of making a documentary about a sensitive subject matter, and more. (I feel I should apologize to all you listeners for saying "uh-huh" so much in this interview. I usually don't do that!)

The film, by the way, is amazing. It deserves all the accolades it's receiving and many more. Don't pass up the opportunity to see it!

Odds and ends

We've been a little slack about updating the blog the past couple of weeks. Real life hasn't been as quiet as the blog though! Here are a few items of possible interest related to GAPN podcasters and guests, as well as the site:

  • As mentioned in the show notes of yesterday's episode of North Fulton Drama Club, auditions for Romeo and Juliet will be held in mid-July. More information here.
  • Zentropy, one of the newest GAPN podcasters, is having a concert this Friday night at their studio in the Eyedrum building. See this blog post for information. Space is very limited, so you may have better luck catching them the next night at the North Georgia Mountain Boogie. Details to follow at Artlanta.
  • Herb and Kim, whom you might remember from a Mostly ITP interview from when they were running the Dept. 13 production company, have launched a new blog and podcast for their new company Astounding Pictures!

I (sort of) make a cameo in their upcoming film FETUS ARMY! Here's a pic:

    Me in a mullet wig

Really, I'm a body double for the lead actor in a scene that required driving my truck (which has a bigger role in the film than I do).

More info about FETUS ARMY here.

  • Amber and I are reviving the Meet Your Affiliates segment on Mostly ITP, so if you're an affiliate and you'd like to be interviewed, drop us a line at info@gapodcastnetwork.com! Or, really, if you have anything that would make interesting interview material.

There's a not-set-in-stone plan to be at Manuel's Tavern this Saturday around 6 p.m. to conduct one said interview, so join us if you're in the neighborhood. I'll keep you posted if that changes.

  • Finally, if you have an iPhone, we now have a version of our site made up all special-like for you!

    Georgia Podcast Network iPhone site

    Just head over to www.gapodcastnetwork.com/iphone.

I sort of loathe how everything is called beta now, but we have to call this beta since videos aren't working yet. But considering that's maybe 1/50 of the content on here, I thought I'd go ahead and mention it.

LIVE Talkie - Listener voicemails, thoughts on Swingtown, Sturgeon's Law applied to adult industry ads

Listen (0:29:55)

Please update to the latest Flash Player and make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser. Or use the download link below to listen on your desktop.

Show notes

This is our second live show (here's the first), and it was very exciting because we actually had several chat room participants, and a caller! Jen, use your $20 Inserection gift card wisely.

Things discussed:

  • Voicemails from Nobilis, Jen, and Tony. Thanks y'all, and keep 'em coming. Drunk-dialing is accepted and encouraged. My favorite was Tony's voicemail about Northside Drive, so maybe he should get the other Inserection gift card, and you two can buy something extra-special.
  • Our thoughts on CBS' new show, Swingtown. We are brimming with opinions about this show. We didn't get around to talking about the possible anachronisms, but perhaps next time. I'm guessing the chances are pretty good that there will be a next time, since we're already planning to watch at least the third episode.
  • I read a ridiculous ad from Xcitement Magazine, and rant semi-coherently about becoming discouraged about the adult industry ~8-10 years ago.

We love voicemail! Call us at 678.389.9441. Add Rusty as a Twitter friend here, and me here. E-mail us at info@gapodcastnetwork.com.
